The ability to connect Outlook via RPC is functional, but it requires a little bit of setup effort.    If you have problems, feel free to contact me, I'd be happy to walk you through it.

1.   When you login to Outlook to create a profile you should see this screen.  Fill in the information required.

 

At this point you should be connected and see your mailbox.
